Our Members have been on duty at some of the UK largest events during August.
Our Quad Bike Team provided a rapid response service to the V2008 Festival in Staffordshire.
During the event the weather was very poor which made access to the campsites and carparks very difficult for conventional ambulances and in some cases the four wheel drive vehicles.
The team responded to various incidents including exploding gas cyclinders which caused burns to the patients limbs, several patients that were worse for wear following to much alsohol or drugs and a number of theses patients were unconscious. Patients also suffered from the usual medical conditions such as chest pains, food poisioning, seizures and asthma attcks to name a few.
Our duty manager at the event said that the team worked very hard especially when the weather became bad and campsites looked more like padi fields. We were able to cancel many ambulance's and save needless journnies. This not only free'd them up for other emergencies but also reduced the risk of the vehicles having accidents with pedestrians on the muddy hills.
Another large event that we have attended is the Leeds West Indian Carnival. Our Cycle Response team, provided the specialist service and worled alongside St John Ambulance and NHS ambulance crews.
The teams role was to provide a rapid response to incidents during the carnival and to support SJA foot patrolls with drfibrillators and supplimentary oxygen therapy.
