History

CVO was originally part of the Civil Defence Corp. This service was disbanded by the government in 1968.

After several radical changes and retraining it emerged as Civil Volunteers Organisation in 1986.

The Bradford Unit was formed by the former members of the Voluntary Emergency Medical Service (VEMS) after an incident following an event where the majority of there equipment was stolen (Nov 03).

Also due to personal commitments of some of the members it was decided that a radical change was needed to sustain the level of service that the clients of VEMS had come to expect.

It was around this time that meetings between the management of VEMS and CVO started to discuss the possibilty of a merger.

The two organisations became one in April 2004.
